When asked to write an analytical essay, one has to follow some suggested procedures to succeed. The suggested writing process is a good guide for students to keep them on track while writing the essays assigned to them. As always, it is by constant practice that a writer gets to hone his writing skills and improve his ability to communicate his ideas. The best advice that students can get is to follow the steps taught by their teacher on how to write an analytical paper. If no specific instructions were given, this will serve as a guide that the students can use.

The Steps of Writing of Analytical Paper:

  • Find the Right Topic – The first step to writing an analytical paper is to find the right topic to write about. In the school environment, students are usually limited to the topic assigned by the teacher. In this case, the students can choose the theme that he is familiar with and where he has sufficient knowledge to develop his ideas into written words. The theme must be exciting to the student so he can pass on his excitement to his reader as he develops the theme into an excellent essay.
  • Do Some Research – Essay writing requires plenty of research to find materials that can be used as references for the arguments that the writer wants to propose in his work. A well-researched subject matter is easy to write about especially if the proposed arguments were carefully studied as relevant or appropriate to be proposed in the essay. The writer should prepare all reference materials that can back up the thesis to be discussed. Once all the research materials and references to form a sound thesis, the student can easily write his analytical paper. He will notice that it is easy to discuss any subject matter that has been well-researched and studied beforehand.
  • Propose Your Thesis – The writer must find time to search for topics that he is comfortable with and as soon as he finds one, he should immediately determine the arguments that he wants to propose in his planned essay. The arguments are formally called thesis and these are the main topic that the writer proposes and defends throughout his essay.
  • Follow an outline – To keep the chain of thought cohesive in case of a long analytical paper, the writer will do well if he prepares an outline as a guide before writing the essay. When the writer feels confident that he has already succeeded in defending his thesis, he can finish his essay by writing the concluding part of the essay.
  • Proofread – The draft of the paper can finally be proofread for grammatical errors and other defects before being subjected to final printing or submission by email.
